The iSCSI Extensions for RDMA (iSER) protocol boosts the data transfer performance of VMware® ESXi storage and reduces the CPU load of the ESXi server. iSER support can be added to the TS-873AU by installing a QNAP QXG-10G2SF-CX4 10GbE PCIe card, which uses the NVIDIA® Mellanox ConnectX-4 controller. iSER can provide a significant increase in performance, providing an essential tool to optimize demanding virtualization applications.
Note: To create an iSER connection with VMware ESXi, both the server and NAS require compatible NVIDIA® Mellanox NICs and switches compatible with NVIDIA® Mellanox or supporting PFC (Priority Flow Control) configuration.

Upgrading your network shouldn’t break the bank, and 2.5GbE connectivity provides immediately noticeable improvements compared to standard 1GbE. The QSW-1105-5T is an unmanaged switch with five 2.5GbE ports (backwards compatible with 1G/100M) and supports CAT5e cables to connect multiple computers and NAS. The QSW-1105-5T is energy-saving, low-noise, plug-and-use, and supports loop detection and blocking to provide a simple and effective high-speed network environment.
Note: The QSW-1105-5T 2.5GbE switch will be available from Q3 2020.
The TS-873AU includes two PCIe Gen 3 x4 slots, allowing you to add additional functionality with compatible PCIe cards. By using a suitable adapter, you can consolidate both slots into a single PCIe Gen 3 x8 slot.

Graphics cards are optimized for graphical calculations and transformations, but require significantly more power than other hardware. The TS-873AU supports entry-level low-profile NVIDIA® GeForce® graphics cards (such as the GT 1030 or GT 1050) that do not require additional power. Installing a graphics card can boost performance of applications such as video editing, 4K video transcoding, imaging processing in QTS and the performance of virtual machines via GPU passthrough.
NOTE:
1. Supported video formats depend on the hardware and software specifications of the devices. Playback capability and quality may vary due to factors including the original file formats/quality, hardware and software limitations, and output devices.
2. GPU support for QTS only applies to NVIDIA graphics cards. GPU Passthrough for virtual machines is supported by AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards.
3. When Virtualization Station uses graphics cards, the TS-873AU will temporarily stop hardware transcoding acceleration for QTS (and vice versa).
4. Always consult the Compatibility List before purchasing or attempting to install a graphics card into the TS-873AU.

VJBOD Cloud supports mounting object cloud storage as a block-based volume or LUN on a NAS. Common Fibre Channel Storage Area Networks (SAN) devices are often costly. By installing a QNAP 16Gb Fibre Channel card (QXP-16G2FC 16Gb) in the TS-873AU, you can set a Fibre Channel Target using the iSCSI & Fibre Channel app. Moreover, the LUN Masking and Port Binding features provide an additional layer of data security.

Besides supporting SAS or QXP SATA expansion cards, the TS-873AU provides USB interfaces to connect a RAID Expansion Enclosure. Use the QTS Storage & Snapshots Manager to easily handle NAS capacity expansion.
Use VJBOD (Virtual JBOD) to expand your storage capacity by using the unused storage of other QNAP NAS. Up to 8 QNAP NAS can be mounted as local disks on the TS-873AU.
Hot swap lower-capacity drives with larger-capacity drives so that your QNAP NAS can grow with your business.

The TS-873AU also supports QuTS hero – QNAP’s ZFS-based NAS operating system. Providing end-to-end data integrity, data reduction (inline data deduplication, compression and compaction), and much more, QuTS hero uses additional system resources to ensure an optimal environment for protecting business data.
Note:
1. QTS and QuTS hero use different file systems. You must remove all the drives from the TS-873AU before switching from QuTS hero to QTS.
2. QuTS hero requires a NAS with at least 8 GB memory.
3. Inline Data Deduplication requires a NAS with at least 16 GB memory (at least 32 GB memory is recommended for optimal performance).
4. It is recommended to create an SSD RAID with at least two SSDs for the QuTS hero system drive to attain optimal system performance. Please note that M.2 SSD hot-swapping is only supported by M.2 SSD slots on PCIe cards (such as the QM2). M.2 SSD slots that are built into the NAS do not support hot-swapping.
5. TS-873AU supports switching QuTS hero OS for QTS 4.5.2.1630 or later version. (Default initialization and Internet connection are required for NAS to install QuTS hero.)
